WHAT WE DO

We are a non-profit organization that is Reshaping English Learners' Education nationwide. We research new teaching methods around the world, reshape these techniques, and implement them by targeting specific strategies for ELs.
Our Founder has worked her entire life as an English as a Second Language teacher in many schools in the US and abroad. That lead to her passion for ELs and her desire for a new and equitable Education System in the US.

OUR IMPACT

Data from official websites that monitor ELs shows that year after year, ELs' population increases. In some schools, the number of enrolled ELs has surpassed the number of native speakers. It makes sense since not only the US has been receiving more and more foreign each year, but mainly because 85% of pre-kindergarten to fifth grade and 62% of 6th to 12th grade ELs are native-born citizens of the United States. However, what no one is noticing is the time gap. Newcomers, along with second and third-generation immigrants, are being placed as ELs faster than existing ELs are becoming English Proficient. Therefore, this educational gap relies on not moving ELs to become fully proficient in less time.

  • By reversing this scenario, schools will:

  1. Decrease the EL population (making room for new students instead of having the same students "stuck" in the system for years)

  2. Move their scores and data

  • By reversing this scenario, ELs will:

  1. Improve their grades

  2. Elevated grades will allow them to  graduate from middle and high school with a higher GPA

  3. A higher GPA will enable them to access excellent college choices

  4. Integrate into society

  5. Find better jobs and salaries

OUR IMPACT is to integrate marginalized communities guaranteeing that no one is left behind due to their cultural background.

PROJECTS

ESL Academy is an ambitious project. We are intentional about reshaping ELs education nationwide. That is what they deserve.  Turning this project into a reality will enable English learners to integrate into American society. This is an effective path to strengthen the United States’ democracy.

We name our projects by numbers, to give you a sense of where we are coming from and where we are going.

PROJECT 1 - ENGLISH LAB

Through extensive paper research, it is proved that ESL services at schools are not efficient, leading to an unsurmountable gap in education for English Learners. According to research by the Institute of Education Sciences under the U.S. Department of Education, the average time ELs spent in classrooms to reach proficiency is 3.8 years (more than 1520 days). This time could be drastically decreased to 1 year and 10 academic months (300 days).
This project aims to decrease the existing gap in EL’s education by transitioning schools from the Full Immersion Program currently taking place nationwide to Pull-Out Services and provide the world’s first-class ESL classes by using an ESL Structured Curriculum.

NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER

"

RobertaWebsite2-13_edited.jpg

The future of education is not in the classrooms. Don't get me wrong, I've been an educator my entire life. I am passionate about education. However "thinking education", "reimagining education", taking things and actions into a new direction is something that can only be done from outside the classroom.
If you are like me, a person that is passionate about education and is tired of expecting to be called for "the position" that can change things, join me! This will be a journey of exploring possibilities, trials and errors, sharing experiences and hope, a lot of hope, that the work we do here, can be seen and taken into consideration by many others and with that, set things into a different path.
